MMS Workboats introduces new inland waterway barge “MMS Off-Roader"

Following a significant investment by MMS Workboats, which included the major conversion & upgrading programme to the ex-tanker barge “Humber Princess”, the refurbished barge is returning to commercial life on Yorkshires waterways.

The MMS Off-Roader offers a lower carbon emission alternative to cargo transportation across Yorkshire & the Humber. With its 500 tonne capacity, each barge load can transport the equivalent of up to 25 lorries.

The barge has the ability to transport a multitude of cargoes, ranging from bulk materials to specialist freight that cannot be moved via road, and will operate between the Humber ports and inland waterways to Leeds, Rotherham and upper river locations such as Trent and Ouse Wharfs.

The extensive conversion was carried out by the Company’s shipyard, based in Hull, who have completed many complex conversions over their 35 years’ of experience in the marine industry.

The MMS Off-Roader has recently made its first successful commercial voyage with marine aggregate from Albert Dock in Hull to Knostrop in Leeds where it will be forwarded for use across West Yorkshire’s building industry.
